In the context of the broader process of mining reform, the Congolese government has required all artisanal miners to group in cooperatives. Several CEGEMI members have done research on this process.
Jorden De Haan and Sara Geenen wrote an Analysis and Policy Brief on Mining Cooperatives in South Kivu: saviour or extortionist? The brief is available in English and French. Two of our members have done research on cooperatives from a legal perspective: Prof. Paul Robain Namegabe, Université Catholique de Bukavu, and Christian Bahala, PhD student at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. One of Bahala’s publications can be found here.
