In recent years investments in large-scale mining have led to spectacular growth (an average growth of 6 percent per year since 2003). More particularly, industrial production of copper and cobalt in Katanga province is now again at unprecedented levels. But also in the eastern provinces, large-scale industrial production has started up (again). Yet the question is whether this economic growth has led to broader socio-economic development and improved wellbeing for the population…. Em. prof.
