The UN Environment Program held a NAP (National Action Plan against mercury) workshop in Manzini (Eswatini) on May 22^nd and 23^rd, 2019. This workshop involved representatives of different African countries and international organizations: Eswatini, Congo, DR Congo, Niger, Burkina-Faso, Burundi, South-Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, UNITAR, UNEP, AGC (Alliance for Artisanal Gold), COWI & GEF (Global Environmental Funds). The CEGEMI has been involved in this workshop to represent the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) of which it is developing the National Action Plan against mercury for under the Congolese Environmental Agency (ACE). This NAP development follows the baseline overview of the Artisanal Small-scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sector in DRC as well as its use of mercury under the MIA project (Minamata Initial Assessment) and is part of the CEGEMI’s effort to study and influence policies regarding mercury in ASGM through the doctoral research of Bossissi Nkuba and other related projects.

L’ONU Environnement a tenu un atelier sur les Plans d’Action Nationaux contre le mercure (NAP) du 22 au 23 mai 2019. Cet atelier impliquait les représentant des différents pays africains et organisations internationales, notamment Eswatini, Congo, RDCongo, Niger, Burkina-Faso, Burundi, South-Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, UNITAR, UNEP, AGC (Alliance for Artisanal Gold), COWI & GEF (Fond Mondial de l’Environnement). Le CEGEMI a été impliqué dans cet atelier pour representer la RDC, de qui elle développe le Plan d’Action National contre le mercure, sous la direction de l’Agence Congolaise de l’Environnement. Cet travail s’inscrit dans la suite de l’Aperçu national de l’orpaillage et de l’utilisation du mercure (projet MIA) et fait partie des efforts du CEGEMI pour étudier et influencer la gouvernance du mercure dans le secteur minier à travers le doctorat d’un de ses membres, Bossissi Nkuba et d’autres projet similaire.
